Server Extensions & SharePoint

Server Extensions (FP 2000&2002)

The FrontPage Server Extensions extend the functionality available to FrontPage websites. If your web pages use one of the following features, you will need a web hosting server that has FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

(Note. You can still create a FrontPage website without using the Server Extensions.  As long as you don't include components that require the Server Extensions, there is no difference between a website that uses the Server Extensions and one that does not.)

  • Hit counters
  • Forms: search forms, feedback form, or any kind of forms
  • Table of contents
  • Guestbook
  • Database Result Wizard
  • Discussion
  • Categories
  • HTTP Publish Tool
  • Open and edit your web site live on the internet
  • And more

If you want to test functionality that requires FrontPage Server Extensions on your local computer, you need to install a web server, such as Personal Web Server, and FrontPage Server Extensions.

Shared Point (FP 2003)

FrontPage 2003 SharePoint allows you to access the entire set of new functionality in FrontPage 2003, along with improvement to the way you did things in FrontPage 2002 and other previous versions of FrontPage.  When combined, FrontPage 2003 and Windows SharePoint Services eliminate the need for Server Extensions.
